Luke 11:1

New English Translation

Now Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he stopped, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

Lord, you have heard the request of the oppressed; you make them feel secure because you listen to their prayer.

May my words and my thoughts be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my sheltering rock and my redeemer.

So he said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, may your name be honored; may your kingdom come.

Now it was during this time that Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and he spent all night in prayer to God.

When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her, “Do not weep.”

and sent them to Jesus to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?”

Once when Jesus was praying by himself, and his disciples were nearby, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”

Now about eight days after these sayings, Jesus took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up the mountain to pray.

During his earthly life Christ offered both requests and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death and he was heard because of his devotion.

But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, by praying in the Holy Spirit,
