Leviticus 19:34

New English Translation

The foreigner who resides with you must be to you like a native citizen among you; so you must love him as yourself, because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

The Lord protects those residing outside their native land; he lifts up the fatherless and the widow, but he opposes the wicked.

“You must not wrong a foreigner nor oppress him, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

You must allot it as an inheritance among yourselves and for the foreigners who reside among you, who have fathered sons among you. You must treat them as native-born among the people of Israel; they will be allotted an inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.

You must not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the children of your people, but you must love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

Each of you must respect his mother and his father, and you must keep my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.

And if you come with us, it is certain that whatever good things the Lord will favor us with, we will share with you as well.”

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘hate your enemy.’

So you must love the resident foreigner because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

You must not hate an Edomite, for he is your relative; you must not hate an Egyptian, for you lived as a foreigner in his land.

Children of the third generation born to them may enter the assembly of the Lord.

Ruth knelt before him with her forehead to the ground and said to him, “Why are you so kind and so attentive to me, even though I am a foreigner?”
