Leviticus 16:21

New English Translation

Aaron is to lay his two hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the iniquities of the Israelites and all their transgressions in regard to all their sins, and thus he is to put them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man standing ready.

While Ezra was praying and confessing, weeping and throwing himself to the ground before the temple of God, a very large crowd of Israelites – men, women, and children alike – gathered around him. The people wept loudly.

Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing. I said, “I will confess my rebellious acts to the Lord.” And then you forgave my sins. (Selah)

For I am aware of my rebellious acts; I am forever conscious of my sin.

“You are to present the bull at the front of the tent of meeting, and Aaron and his sons are to put their hands on the head of the bull.

The one who covers his transgressions will not prosper, but whoever confesses them and forsakes them will find mercy.

All of us had wandered off like sheep; each of us had strayed off on his own path, but the Lord caused the sin of all of us to attack him.

He must lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted for him to make atonement on his behalf.

“When he has finished purifying the holy place, the Meeting Tent, and the altar, he is to present the live goat.

The goat is to bear on itself all their iniquities into an inaccessible land, so he is to send the goat away in the wilderness.

However, when they confess their iniquity and their ancestors’ iniquity which they committed by trespassing against me, by which they also walked in hostility against me

when an individual becomes guilty with regard to one of these things he must confess how he has sinned,

For with the heart one believes and thus has righteousness and with the mouth one confesses and thus has salvation.

God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God.
