The hare is unclean to you because it chews the cud even though its hoof is not divided.

The pig is unclean to you because its hoof is divided (the hoof is completely split in two), even though it does not chew the cud.

These Jews were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they eagerly received the message, examining the scriptures carefully every day to see if these things were so.

You may eat any animal that has hooves divided into two parts and that chews the cud.

Also the pig is ritually impure to you; though it has divided hooves, it does not chew the cud. You may not eat their meat or even touch their remains.

Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that everyone will see your progress.
