When King Hezekiah heard this, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and went to the Lord’s temple.

Jehoshaphat was afraid, so he decided to seek the Lord’s advice. He decreed that all Judah should observe a fast.

I called for a fast there by the Ahava Canal, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and seek from him a safe journey for us, our children, and all our property.

So I turned my attention to the Lord God to implore him by prayer and requests, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.

Announce a holy fast; proclaim a sacred assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the temple of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord.

He issued a proclamation and said, “In Nineveh, by the decree of the king and his nobles: No human or animal, cattle or sheep, is to taste anything; they must not eat and they must not drink water.

The people of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented when Jonah preached to them – and now, something greater than Jonah is here!

Therefore keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will be just as I have been told.

All the people, from the least to the greatest, paid close attention to him, saying, “This man is the power of God that is called ‘Great.’”

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.

By faith Noah, when he was warned about things not yet seen, with reverent regard constructed an ark for the deliverance of his family. Through faith he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

And I will grant my two witnesses authority to prophesy for 1,260 days, dressed in sackcloth.
