A Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me some water to drink.”

Abraham’s servant ran to meet her and said, “Please give me a sip of water from your jug.”

Here I am, standing by the spring. When the young woman goes out to draw water, I’ll say, “Give me a little water to drink from your jug.”

So he got up and went to Zarephath. When he went through the city gate, there was a widow gathering wood. He called out to her, “Please give me a cup of water, so I can take a drink.”

And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, I tell you the truth, he will never lose his reward.”

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time everything was completed, said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty!”

Jesus answered her, “If you had known the gift of God and who it is who said to you, ‘Give me some water to drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

Jacob’s well was there, so Jesus, since he was tired from the journey, sat right down beside the well. It was about noon.

(For his disciples had gone off into the town to buy supplies.)
