Jacob’s well was there, so Jesus, since he was tired from the journey, sat right down beside the well. It was about noon.

Now from noon until three, darkness came over all the land.

After he fasted forty days and forty nights he was famished.

And a great storm developed on the sea so that the waves began to swamp the boat. But he was asleep.

And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

Jesus said to him, “Foxes have dens and the birds in the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

Jesus replied, “Are there not twelve hours in a day? If anyone walks around in the daytime, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

Surely you’re not greater than our ancestor Jacob, are you? For he gave us this well and drank from it himself, along with his sons and his livestock.”

Now he came to a Samaritan town called Sychar, near the plot of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.

A Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me some water to drink.”

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he was rich, he became poor for your sakes, so that you by his poverty could become rich.

Therefore he had to be made like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in things relating to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin.
