Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to complete his work.

I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my allotted portion.

I want to do what pleases you, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts.”

Going a little farther, he threw himself down with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if possible, let this cup pass from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

So Jesus replied to him, “Let it happen now, for it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John yielded to him.

Jesus and his disciples got up and followed him.

In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels over one sinner who repents.”

For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

But he replied, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

I glorified you on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time everything was completed, said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty!”

When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”

I can do nothing on my own initiative. Just as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will, but the will of the one who sent me.

“But I have a testimony greater than that from John. For the deeds that the Father has assigned me to complete – the deeds I am now doing – testify about me that the Father has sent me.

For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

For I have come down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.

And the one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do those things that please him.”

By all these things, I have shown you that by working in this way we must help the weak, and remember the words of the Lord Jesus that he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
