When Adam had lived 130 years he fathered a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and he named him Seth.

God saw the earth, and indeed it was ruined, for all living creatures on the earth were sinful.

But the Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind had become great on the earth. Every inclination of the thoughts of their minds was only evil all the time.

Who can make a clean thing come from an unclean? No one!

How then can a human being be righteous before God? How can one born of a woman be pure?

Create for me a pure heart, O God! Renew a resolute spirit within me!

– children not born by human parents or by human desire or a husband’s decision, but by God.

Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must all be born from above.’

For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For I want to do the good, but I cannot do it.

Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

For when we were in the flesh, the sinful desires, aroused by the law, were active in the members of our body to bear fruit for death.

(for if you live according to the flesh, you will die), but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live.

But the one united with the Lord is one spirit with him.

So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away – look, what is new has come!

Now those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

among whom all of us also formerly lived out our lives in the cravings of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath even as the rest…

In him you also were circumcised – not, however, with a circumcision performed by human hands, but by the removal of the fleshly body, that is, through the circumcision done by Christ.

Everyone who has been fathered by God does not practice sin, because God’s seed resides in him, and thus he is not able to sin, because he has been fathered by God.
