Then Jesus, because he knew everything that was going to happen to him, came and asked them, “Who are you looking for?”

As certainly as the Lord your God lives, my master has sent to every nation and kingdom in an effort to find you. When they say, ‘He’s not here,’ he makes them swear an oath that they could not find you.

But I replied, “Should a man like me run away? Would someone like me flee to the temple in order to save his life? I will not go!”

Even when an army is deployed against me, I do not fear. Even when war is imminent, I remain confident.

I am not afraid of the multitude of people who attack me from all directions.

The wicked person flees when there is no one pursuing, but the righteous person is as confident as a lion.

From that time on Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

“You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

And while they were eating he said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me.”

Then Jesus said to them, “This night you will all fall away because of me, for it is written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’

Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.”

Just before the Passover feast, Jesus knew that his time had come to depart from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now loved them to the very end.

(For Jesus knew the one who was going to betray him. For this reason he said, “Not every one of you is clean.”)

They replied, “Jesus the Nazarene.” He told them, “I am he.” (Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, was standing there with them.)

Then Jesus asked them again, “Who are you looking for?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.”

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time everything was completed, said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty!”

But there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus had already known from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him.)

You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of joy with your presence.’

So, since Christ suffered in the flesh, you also arm yourselves with the same attitude, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin,
