Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the Roman governor’s residence. (Now it was very early morning.) They did not go into the governor’s residence so they would not be ceremonially defiled, but could eat the Passover meal.

When I tripped, they taunted me relentlessly, and tried to bite me.

for they are eager to inflict harm, and they hasten to shed blood.

For they cannot sleep unless they cause harm; they are robbed of sleep until they make someone stumble.

“‘In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, you will celebrate the Passover, and for seven days bread made without yeast will be eaten.

Those who devise sinful plans are as good as dead, those who dream about doing evil as they lie in bed. As soon as morning dawns they carry out their plans, because they have the power to do so.

Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s residence and gathered the whole cohort around him.

So the soldiers led him into the palace (that is, the governor’s residence) and called together the whole cohort.

When day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both the chief priests and the experts in the law. Then they led Jesus away to their council

Now the Jewish feast of Passover was near, and many people went up to Jerusalem from the rural areas before the Passover to cleanse themselves ritually.

They brought him first to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

Simon Peter and another disciple followed them as they brought Jesus to Annas. (Now the other disciple was acquainted with the high priest, and he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard.)

So Pilate went back into the governor’s residence, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

But it is your custom that I release one prisoner for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release for you the king of the Jews?”

Jesus replied, “You would have no authority over me at all, unless it was given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of greater sin.”

(Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover, about noon.) Pilate said to the Jewish leaders, “Look, here is your king!”

and he went back into the governor’s residence and said to Jesus, “Where do you come from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.

He said to them, “You know that it is unlawful for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile, yet God has shown me that I should call no person defiled or ritually unclean.

Therefore send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter. This man is staying as a guest in the house of Simon the tanner, by the sea.’

saying, “You went to uncircumcised men and shared a meal with them.”

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our forefathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate after he had decided to release him.

“For indeed both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed,

You must sacrifice the Passover animal (from the flock or the herd) to the Lord your God in the place where he chooses to locate his name.
