The disciples began to look at one another, worried and perplexed to know which of them he was talking about.
When Jacob heard there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why are you looking at each other?”
And while they were eating he said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me.”
They became greatly distressed and each one began to say to him, “Surely not I, Lord?”
While they were at the table eating, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, one of you eating with me will betray me.”
They were distressed, and one by one said to him, “Surely not I?”
“But look, the hand of the one who betrays me is with me on the table.
So they began to question one another as to which of them it could possibly be who would do this.
“What I am saying does not refer to all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture, ‘The one who eats my bread has turned against me.’
When he had said these things, Jesus was greatly distressed in spirit, and testified, “I tell you the solemn truth, one of you will betray me.”
