Nevertheless, even among the rulers many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they would not confess Jesus to be the Christ, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue.

The fear of people becomes a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord will be set on high.

Listen to me, you who know what is right, you people who are aware of my law! Don’t be afraid of the insults of men; don’t be discouraged because of their abuse!

Whom are you worried about? Whom do you fear, that you would act so deceitfully and not remember me or think about me? Because I have been silent for so long, you are not afraid of me.

Hear the word of the Lord, you who respect what he has to say! Your countrymen, who hate you and exclude you, supposedly for the sake of my name, say, “May the Lord be glorified, then we will witness your joy.” But they will be put to shame.

“Whoever, then, acknowledges me before people, I will acknowledge before my Father in heaven.

Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,

“Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject you as evil on account of the Son of Man!

Then many of the people, who had come with Mary and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in him.

for on account of him many of the Jewish people from Jerusalem were going away and believing in Jesus.

They will put you out of the synagogue, yet a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God.

After this, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus (but secretly, because he feared the Jewish leaders), asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission, so he went and took the body away.

came to Jesus at night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs that you do unless God is with him.”

However, no one spoke openly about him for fear of the Jewish leaders.

Yet many of the crowd believed in him and said, “Whenever the Christ comes, he won’t perform more miraculous signs than this man did, will he?”

(His parents said these things because they were afraid of the Jewish religious leaders. For the Jewish leaders had already agreed that anyone who confessed Jesus to be the Christ would be put out of the synagogue.

They replied, “You were born completely in sinfulness, and yet you presume to teach us?” So they threw him out.

So they left the council rejoicing because they had been considered worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name.

For with the heart one believes and thus has righteousness and with the mouth one confesses and thus has salvation.

If anyone confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides in him and he in God.

By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses Jesus as the Christ who has come in the flesh is from God,
