so that the word of Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled. He said, “Lord, who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”

King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz prayed about this and cried out to heaven.

For they did not conquer the land by their swords, and they did not prevail by their strength, but rather by your power, strength and good favor, for you were partial to them.

I am ready to vindicate, I am ready to deliver, I will establish justice among the nations. The coastlands wait patiently for me; they wait in anticipation for the revelation of my power.

Wake up! Wake up! Clothe yourself with strength, O arm of the Lord! Wake up as in former times, as in antiquity! Did you not smash the Proud One? Did you not wound the sea monster?

Who would have believed what we just heard? When was the Lord’s power revealed through him?

Hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you when he said,

And Jesus answered him, “You are blessed, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven!

When they had crucified him, they divided his clothes by throwing dice.

Although Jesus had performed so many miraculous signs before them, they still refused to believe in him,

For this reason they could not believe, because again Isaiah said,

Now this happened to fulfill the word that is written in their law, ‘They hated me without reason.’

When I was with them I kept them safe and watched over them in your name that you have given me. Not one of them was lost except the one destined for destruction, so that the scripture could be fulfilled.

So the soldiers said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but throw dice to see who will get it.” This took place to fulfill the scripture that says, “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they threw dice.” So the soldiers did these things.

But not all have obeyed the good news, for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”

And Isaiah is even bold enough to say, “I was found by those who did not seek me; I became well known to those who did not ask for me.”

But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

to reveal his Son in me so that I could preach him among the Gentiles, I did not go to ask advice from any human being,
