The Lord stirred up against Jehoram the Philistines and the Arabs who lived beside the Cushites.

Don’t be so happy, all you Philistines, just because the club that beat you has been broken! For a viper will grow out of the serpent’s root, and its fruit will be a darting adder.

For the Lord has planned a day of revenge, a time when he will repay Edom for her hostility toward Zion.

He repays them for what they have done, dispensing angry judgment to his adversaries and punishing his enemies. He repays the coastlands.

The Lord spoke to the prophet Jeremiah about the Philistines before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.

For the time has come to destroy all the Philistines. The time has come to destroy all the help that remains for Tyre and Sidon. For I, the Lord, will destroy the Philistines, that remnant that came from the island of Crete.

But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you!

Won’t God give justice to his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay long to help them?

He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”

I will get revenge and pay them back at the time their foot slips; for the day of their disaster is near, and the impending judgment is rushing upon them!”

For it is right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,

Jephthah sent messengers to the Ammonite king, saying, “Why have you come against me to attack my land?”
