You bring new witnesses against me, and increase your anger against me; relief troops come against me.

“Man, born of woman, lives but a few days, and they are full of trouble.

but people are born to trouble, as surely as the sparks fly upward.

Like a servant longing for the evening shadow, and like a hired man looking for his wages,

“O Lord, help me understand my mortality and the brevity of life! Let me realize how quickly my life will pass!

Just as no one has power over the wind to restrain it, so no one has power over the day of his death. Just as no one can be discharged during the battle, so wickedness cannot rescue the wicked.

Now the Lord makes this announcement: “Within exactly three years Moab’s splendor will disappear, along with all her many people; there will be just a few, insignificant survivors left.”

For this is what the sovereign master has told me: “Within exactly one year all the splendor of Kedar will come to an end.

“Go and tell Hezekiah: ‘This is what the Lord God of your ancestor David says: “I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Look, I will add fifteen years to your life,

“Speak kindly to Jerusalem, and tell her that her time of warfare is over, that her punishment is completed. For the Lord has made her pay double for all her sins.”

You should not consider it difficult to let him go free, for he will have served you for six years, twice the time of a hired worker; the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.
