Are not my days few? Cease, then, and leave me alone, that I may find a little comfort,

Do you wish to torment a windblown leaf and chase after dry chaff?

So I waste away like something rotten, like a garment eaten by moths.

My spirit is broken, my days have faded out, the grave awaits me.

If I hope for the grave to be my home, if I spread out my bed in darkness,

Is my complaint against a man? If so, why should I not be impatient?

“How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the person who has no strength!

Is my strength like that of stones? or is my flesh made of bronze?

He has taken away my strength in the middle of life; he has cut short my days.

“O Lord, help me understand my mortality and the brevity of life! Let me realize how quickly my life will pass!

Look, you make my days short-lived, and my life span is nothing from your perspective. Surely all people, even those who seem secure, are nothing but vapor.
