So they hanged Haman on the very gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. The king’s rage then abated.

Terrors frighten him on all sides and dog his every step.

He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world.

Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; at night a whirlwind carries him off.

And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust, and you will seek me diligently, but I will be gone.”

The eye of him who sees me now will see me no more; your eyes will look for me, but I will be gone.

He mounted a winged angel and flew; he glided on the wings of the wind.

They are like a dream after one wakes up. O Lord, when you awake you will despise them.

The days of our lives add up to seventy years, or eighty, if one is especially strong. But even one’s best years are marred by trouble and oppression. Yes, they pass quickly and we fly away.

You bring their lives to an end and they “fall asleep.” In the morning they are like the grass that sprouts up;

When the storm passes through, the wicked are swept away, but the righteous are an everlasting foundation.

He will then turn his attention to the fortresses of his own land, but he will stumble and fall, not to be found again.
