Who will contend with me? If anyone can, I will be silent and die.

Then Zophar the Naamathite answered:

When I hear a reproof that dishonors me, then my understanding prompts me to answer.

“If someone should attempt a word with you, will you be impatient? But who can refrain from speaking?

I rashly declared, “All men are liars.”

I jumped to conclusions and said, “I am cut off from your presence!” But you heard my plea for mercy when I cried out to you for help.

The one who is slow to anger has great understanding, but the one who has a quick temper exalts folly.

Do you see someone who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Do not let yourself be quickly provoked, for anger resides in the lap of fools.

Sometimes I think, “I will make no mention of his message. I will not speak as his messenger any more.” But then his message becomes like a fire locked up inside of me, burning in my heart and soul. I grow weary of trying to hold it in; I cannot contain it.

Immediately she hurried back to the king and made her request: “I want the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.”

For I can testify that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not in line with the truth.

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.
