Now David had been told, “Ahithophel has sided with the conspirators who are with Absalom. So David prayed, “Make the advice of Ahithophel foolish, O Lord!”

Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The advice of Hushai the Arkite sounds better than the advice of Ahithophel.” Now the Lord had decided to frustrate the sound advice of Ahithophel, so that the Lord could bring disaster on Absalom.

This made the king of Syria upset. So he summoned his advisers and said to them, “One of us must be helping the king of Israel.”

Your own mouth condemns you, not I; your own lips testify against you.

In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress overtakes him. the full force of misery will come upon him.

And surely, he drew you from the mouth of distress, to a wide place, unrestricted, and to the comfort of your table filled with rich food.

You widen my path; my feet do not slip.

The Lord frustrates the decisions of the nations; he nullifies the plans of the peoples.

The righteousness of the blameless will make straight their way, but the wicked person will fall by his own wickedness.

In the transgression of an evil person there is a snare, but a righteous person can sing and rejoice.

When you walk, your steps will not be hampered, and when you run, you will not stumble.

Even the calf idol will be carried to Assyria, as tribute for the great king. Ephraim will be disgraced; Israel will be put to shame because of its wooden idol.

For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness.”
