Remember that you have made me as with the clay; will you return me to dust?

By the sweat of your brow you will eat food until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you will return.”

He remembered that they were made of flesh, and were like a wind that blows past and does not return.

Take note of my brief lifespan! Why do you make all people so mortal?

You make mankind return to the dust, and say, “Return, O people!”

and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life’s breath returns to God who gave it.

One who argues with his creator is in grave danger, one who is like a mere shard among the other shards on the ground! The clay should not say to the potter, “What in the world are you doing? Your work lacks skill!”

No one invokes your name, or makes an effort to take hold of you. For you have rejected us and handed us over to our own sins.

Yet, Lord, you are our father. We are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the product of your labor.

“I, the Lord, say: ‘O nation of Israel, can I not deal with you as this potter deals with the clay? In my hands, you, O nation of Israel, are just like the clay in this potter’s hand.’

Has the potter no right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for special use and another for ordinary use?

But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that the extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.
