Now the earth was without shape and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the water.

Indeed the stars in the sky and their constellations no longer give out their light; the sun is darkened as soon as it rises, and the moon does not shine.

At that time they will growl over their prey, it will sound like sea waves crashing against rocks. One will look out over the land and see the darkness of disaster, clouds will turn the light into darkness.

Be amazed at this, O heavens! Be shocked and utterly dumbfounded,” says the Lord.

I said, “I will weep and mourn for the grasslands on the mountains, I will sing a mournful song for the pastures in the wilderness because they are so scorched no one travels through them. The sound of livestock is no longer heard there. Even the birds in the sky and the wild animals in the fields have fled and are gone.”

He drove me into captivity and made me walk in darkness and not light.

The earth quakes before them; the sky reverberates. The sun and the moon grow dark; the stars refuse to shine.

In that day,” says the sovereign Lord, “I will make the sun set at noon, and make the earth dark in the middle of the day.

On that day there will be no light – the sources of light in the heavens will congeal.

“Immediately after the suffering of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven will be shaken.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Then I saw a large white throne and the one who was seated on it; the earth and the heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them.
