Jeremiah 17:21

New English Translation

The Lord says, ‘Be very careful if you value your lives! Do not carry any loads in through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day.

“Remember the Sabbath day to set it apart as holy.

Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.

The people who do this will be blessed, the people who commit themselves to obedience, who observe the Sabbath and do not defile it, who refrain from doing anything that is wrong.

You must observe the Sabbath rather than doing anything you please on my holy day. You must look forward to the Sabbath and treat the Lord’s holy day with respect. You must treat it with respect by refraining from your normal activities, and by refraining from your selfish pursuits and from making business deals.

And he said to them, “Take care about what you hear. The measure you use will be the measure you receive, and more will be added to you.

So listen carefully, for whoever has will be given more, but whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him.”

Watch out for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God that he obtained with the blood of his own Son.

Make sure you do not turn away to serve and worship other gods!

Be very careful, then, because you saw no form at the time the Lord spoke to you at Horeb from the middle of the fire.

Be on guard so that you do not forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he has made with you, and that you do not make an image of any kind, just as he has forbidden you.

Again, however, pay very careful attention, lest you forget the things you have seen and disregard them for the rest of your life; instead teach them to your children and grandchildren.

Watch yourselves carefully! Love the Lord your God!
