But then Hezekiah and the residents of Jerusalem humbled themselves and abandoned their pride, and the Lord was not angry with them for the rest of Hezekiah’s reign.

In his pain Manasseh asked the Lord his God for mercy and truly humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.

The fear of the Lord provides wise instruction, and before honor comes humility.

Before destruction the heart of a person is proud, but humility comes before honor.

The reward for humility and fearing the Lord is riches and honor and life.

A person’s pride will bring him low, but one who has a lowly spirit will gain honor.

Although he is scornful to arrogant scoffers, yet he shows favor to the humble.

Proud men will be humiliated, arrogant men will be brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.

“For a short time I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will gather you.

For this is what the high and exalted one says, the one who rules forever, whose name is holy: “I dwell in an exalted and holy place, but also with the discouraged and humiliated, in order to cheer up the humiliated and to encourage the discouraged.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, for all his deeds are right and his ways are just. He is able to bring down those who live in pride.

For whoever has will be given more, and will have an abundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.

And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up those of lowly position;

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

I tell you that this man went down to his home justified rather than the Pharisee. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

In the same way, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

Don’t keep speaking so arrogantly, letting proud talk come out of your mouth! For the Lord is a God who knows; he evaluates what people do.
