Yet, Lord, you are our father. We are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the product of your labor.

Is it good for you to oppress, to despise the work of your hands, while you smile on the schemes of the wicked?

Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us and we belong to him; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Your hands made me and formed me. Give me understanding so that I might learn your commands.

The Lord avenges me. O Lord, your loyal love endures. Do not abandon those whom you have made!

Why, O God, have you permanently rejected us? Why does your anger burn against the sheep of your pasture?

I, I am the one who blots out your rebellious deeds for my sake; your sins I do not remember.

everyone who belongs to me, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed – yes, whom I made!

Remember these things, O Jacob, O Israel, for you are my servant. I formed you to be my servant; O Israel, I will not forget you!

This is what the Lord, your protector, says, the one who formed you in the womb: “I am the Lord, who made everything, who alone stretched out the sky, who fashioned the earth all by myself,

This is what the Lord says, the Holy One of Israel, the one who formed him, concerning things to come: “How dare you question me about my children! How dare you tell me what to do with the work of my own hands!

One who argues with his creator is in grave danger, one who is like a mere shard among the other shards on the ground! The clay should not say to the potter, “What in the world are you doing? Your work lacks skill!”

For I will not be hostile forever or perpetually angry, for then man’s spirit would grow faint before me, the life-giving breath I created.

All of your people will be godly; they will possess the land permanently. I will plant them like a shoot; they will be the product of my labor, through whom I reveal my splendor.

For you are our father, though Abraham does not know us and Israel does not recognize us. You, Lord, are our father; you have been called our protector from ancient times.

He said, “Certainly they will be my people, children who are not disloyal.” He became their deliverer.

For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us. He shoulders responsibility and is called: Extraordinary Strategist, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

They will come back shedding tears of contrition. I will bring them back praying prayers of repentance. I will lead them besides streams of water, along smooth paths where they will never stumble. I will do this because I am Israel’s father; Ephraim is my firstborn son.’”

(2:1) However, in the future the number of the people of Israel will be like the sand of the sea which can be neither measured nor numbered. Although it was said to them, “You are not my people,” it will be said to them, “You are children of the living God!”

Do we not all have one father? Did not one God create us? Why do we betray one another, in this way making light of the covenant of our ancestors?

You people are doing the deeds of your father.” Then they said to Jesus, “We were not born as a result of immorality! We have only one Father, God himself.”

For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith.

And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.

For we are his workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand so we may do them.

Is this how you repay the Lord, you foolish, unwise people? Is he not your father, your creator? He has made you and established you.

They are your people, your valued property, whom you brought out with great strength and power.
