But Judah said to him, “The man solemnly warned us, ‘You will not see my face unless your brother is with you.’

When they finished eating the grain they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, “Return, buy us a little more food.”

If you send our brother with us, we’ll go down and buy food for you.

But if you will not send him, we won’t go down there because the man said to us, ‘You will not see my face unless your brother is with you.’”

But you said to your servants, ‘If your youngest brother does not come down with you, you will not see my face again.’

But the king said, “Let him go over to his own house. He may not see my face.” So Absalom went over to his own house; he did not see the king’s face.

Absalom lived in Jerusalem for two years without seeing the king’s face.

Absalom said to Joab, “Look, I sent a message to you saying, ‘Come here so that I can send you to the king with this message: “Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me if I were still there.”’ Let me now see the face of the king. If I am at fault, let him put me to death!”

So David said, “Good! I will make an agreement with you. I ask only one thing from you. You will not see my face unless you bring Saul’s daughter Michal when you come to visit me.”

“And now I know that none of you among whom I went around proclaiming the kingdom will see me again.

especially saddened by what he had said, that they were not going to see him again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.

I have certainly seen the suffering of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to rescue them. Now come, I will send you to Egypt.’
