May the sovereign God bless you! May he make you fruitful and give you a multitude of descendants! Then you will become a large nation.

Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh, saying, “Certainly God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s house.”

The seven years of abundance in the land of Egypt came to an end.

After these things Joseph was told, “Your father is weakening.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim with him.

The descendants of Joseph were considered as two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. The Levites were allotted no territory, though they were assigned cities in which to live, along with the grazing areas for their cattle and possessions.

Joseph’s descendants, Manasseh and Ephraim, were assigned their land.

The tribe of Manasseh, Joseph’s firstborn son, was also allotted land. The descendants of Makir, Manasseh’s firstborn and the father of Gilead, received land, for they were warriors. They were assigned Gilead and Bashan.

After some time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, thinking, “I asked the Lord for him.
