They traveled on from Bethel, and when Ephrath was still some distance away, Rachel went into labor – and her labor was hard.

With her dying breath, she named him Ben-Oni. But his father called him Benjamin instead.

Samuel did what the Lord told him. When he arrived in Bethlehem, the elders of the city were afraid to meet him. They said, “Do you come in peace?”

Now David was the son of this Ephrathite named Jesse from Bethlehem in Judah. He had eight sons, and in Saul’s days he was old and well advanced in years.
