Jacob was very afraid and upset. So he divided the people who were with him into two camps, as well as the flocks, herds, and camels.

Rescue me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, as well as the mothers with their children.

Jacob sent messengers on ahead to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the region of Edom.

“If Esau attacks one camp,” he thought, “then the other camp will be able to escape.”

Jacob looked up and saw that Esau was coming along with four hundred men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two female servants.

Let us go up at once to Bethel. Then I will make an altar there to God, who responded to me in my time of distress and has been with me wherever I went.”

They cried out to the Lord in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles.

It goes well for the one who generously lends money, and conducts his business honestly.

They strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue in the faith, saying, “We must enter the kingdom of God through many persecutions.”

who comforts us in all our troubles so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Now in fact all who want to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
