Genesis 22:12

“Do not harm the boy!” the angel said. “Do not do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God because you did not withhold your son, your only son, from me.”

All this will come to pass because Abraham obeyed me and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

On the third day Joseph said to them, “Do as I say and you will live, for I fear God.

But the former governors who preceded me had burdened the people and had taken food and wine from them, in addition to forty shekels of silver. Their associates were also domineering over the people. But I did not behave in this way, due to my fear of God.

There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. And that man was pure and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil.

And he said to mankind, ‘The fear of the Lord – that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”

He will deliver you from six calamities; yes, in seven no evil will touch you.

Certainly the Lord guards the way of the godly, but the way of the wicked ends in destruction.

To obey the Lord is the fundamental principle for wise living; all who carry out his precepts acquire good moral insight. He will receive praise forever.

The Lord takes delight in his faithful followers, and in those who wait for his loyal love.

Serve the Lord in fear! Repent in terror!

The Lord shows his faithful followers the way they should live.

The Lord’s loyal followers receive his guidance, and he reveals his covenantal demands to them.

Moses said to the people, “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you so that you do not sin.”

Fearing the Lord is the beginning of moral knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments, because this is the whole duty of man.

They have built places here for worship of the god Baal so that they could sacrifice their children as burnt offerings to him in the fire. Such sacrifices are something I never commanded them to make! They are something I never told them to do! Indeed, such a thing never even entered my mind!

I will make a lasting covenant with them that I will never stop doing good to them. I will fill their hearts and minds with respect for me so that they will never again turn away from me.

But for you who respect my name, the sun of vindication will rise with healing wings, and you will skip about like calves released from the stall.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

And whoever has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.

In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they can see your good deeds and give honor to your Father in heaven.

For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria experienced peace and thus was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and in the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, the church increased in numbers.

But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, freely give us all things?

No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.

For if the eagerness is present, the gift itself is acceptable according to whatever one has, not according to what he does not have.

and he reasoned that God could even raise him from the dead, and in a sense he received him back from there.

So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us give thanks, and through this let us offer worship pleasing to God in devotion and awe.

But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith without works and I will show you faith by my works.

Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God all you his servants, and all you who fear Him, both the small and the great!”

Then Samuel said, “Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as he does in obedience? Certainly, obedience is better than sacrifice; paying attention is better than the fat of rams.
