Exodus 3:4

New English Translation

When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to look, God called to him from within the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”

Some time after these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am!” Abraham replied.

But the Lord’s angel called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am!” he answered.

Then Jacob woke up and thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, but I did not realize it!”

God spoke to Israel in a vision during the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob!” He replied, “Here I am!”

God has declared one principle; two principles I have heard: God is strong,

Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, “Thus you will tell the house of Jacob, and declare to the people of Israel:

The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from within a bush. He looked – and the bush was ablaze with fire, but it was not being consumed!

Moses said to the Lord, “See, you have been saying to me, ‘Bring this people up,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. But you said, ‘I know you by name, and also you have found favor in my sight.’

“that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

Then the Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the Meeting Tent:

Then a voice said to him, “Get up, Peter; slaughter and eat!”

About three o’clock one afternoon he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God who came in and said to him, “Cornelius.”

He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?”

with the harvest of the earth and its fullness and the pleasure of him who resided in the burning bush. May blessing rest on Joseph’s head, and on the top of the head of the one set apart from his brothers.

Then the Lord came and stood nearby, calling as he had previously done, “Samuel! Samuel!” Samuel replied, “Speak, for your servant is listening!”

The Lord called to Samuel, and he replied, “Here I am!”

The Lord again called, “Samuel!” So Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But Eli said, “I didn’t call you, my son. Go back and lie down.”

Then the Lord called Samuel a third time. So he got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me!” Eli then realized that it was the Lord who was calling the boy.
