The entire lifetime of Adam was 930 years, and then he died.

He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will return there. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. May the name of the Lord be blessed!”

I know that you are bringing me to death, to the meeting place for all the living.

Remember that my life is but a breath, that my eyes will never again see happiness.

Do you want to really live? Would you love to live a long, happy life?

and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life’s breath returns to God who gave it.

The wise man can see where he is going, but the fool walks in darkness. Yet I also realized that the same fate happens to them both.

Both go to the same place, both come from the dust, and to dust both return.

Even if a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years – even if he lives a long, long time, but cannot enjoy his prosperity – even if he were to live forever – I would say, “A stillborn child is better off than he is!”

though it never saw the light of day nor knew anything, yet it has more rest than that man –

It is better to go to a funeral than a feast. For death is the destiny of every person, and the living should take this to heart.

Everyone shares the same fate – the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the ceremonially clean and unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. What happens to the good person, also happens to the sinner; what happens to those who make vows, also happens to those who are afraid to make vows.

Never again will one of her infants live just a few days or an old man die before his time. Indeed, no one will die before the age of a hundred, anyone who fails to reach the age of a hundred will be considered cursed.

No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it, or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit, for my people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced.

They will be like a shrub in the desert. They will not experience good things even when they happen. It will be as though they were growing in the desert, in a salt land where no one can live.

And just as people are appointed to die once, and then to face judgment,
