And this is the blessing to Judah. He said, Listen, O Lord, to Judah’s voice, and bring him to his people. May his power be great, and may you help him against his foes.

However, the war was prolonged between the house of Saul and the house of David. David was becoming steadily stronger, while the house of Saul was becoming increasingly weaker.

All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron saying, “Look, we are your very flesh and blood!

So David asked the Lord, “Should I march up against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?” The Lord said to David, “March up, for I will indeed hand the Philistines over to you.”

When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the trees, act decisively. For at that moment the Lord is going before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.”

Each day men came to help David until his army became very large.

How blessed is the one whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,

May he send you help from his temple; from Zion may he give you support!

O Lord, the king rejoices in the strength you give; he takes great delight in the deliverance you provide.

You prevail over all your enemies; your power is too great for those who hate you.

He chose the tribe of Judah, and Mount Zion, which he loves.

He chose David, his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds.

He will experience my faithfulness and loyal love, and by my name he will win victories.

So the sovereign master was not pleased with their young men, he took no pity on their orphans and widows; for the whole nation was godless and did wicked things, every mouth was speaking disgraceful words. Despite all this, his anger does not subside, and his hand is ready to strike again.

(5:1) As for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, seemingly insignificant among the clans of Judah – from you a king will emerge who will rule over Israel on my behalf, one whose origins are in the distant past.

“I am about to send my messenger, who will clear the way before me. Indeed, the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, whom you long for, is certainly coming,” says the Lord who rules over all.

These are the names of the men: from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;

But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be their king, bring them here and slaughter them in front of me!’”

For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

For it is clear that our Lord is descended from Judah, yet Moses said nothing about priests in connection with that tribe.
