They came from nations about which the Lord had warned the Israelites, “You must not establish friendly relations with them! If you do, they will surely shift your allegiance to their gods.” But Solomon was irresistibly attracted to them.

For the waywardness of the simpletons will kill them, and the careless ease of fools will destroy them.

The backslider will be paid back from his own ways, but a good person will be rewarded for his.

For if you turn away from following him, he will once again abandon them in the wilderness, and you will be the reason for their destruction.”

Make sure you do not turn away to serve and worship other gods!

Take care not to refuse the one who is speaking! For if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less shall we, if we reject the one who warns from heaven?

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has an evil, unbelieving heart that forsakes the living God.

They went to the land of Gilead to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and said to them:

You should not turn aside after empty things that can’t profit and can’t deliver, since they are empty.

But if you continue to do evil, both you and your king will be swept away.”
