Deuteronomy 29:6

You have eaten no bread and drunk no wine or beer – all so that you might know that I am the Lord your God!

You provided bread from heaven for them in their time of hunger, and you brought forth water from the rock for them in their time of thirst. You told them to enter in order to possess the land that you had sworn to give them.

“I have heard the murmurings of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘During the evening you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be satisfied with bread, so that you may know that I am the Lord your God.’”

Now the Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a land that was inhabited; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

Moreover, you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, nor given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Do you think you can blind these men? We will not come up.”

“Take the staff and assemble the community, you and Aaron your brother, and then speak to the rock before their eyes. It will pour forth its water, and you will bring water out of the rock for them, and so you will give the community and their beasts water to drink.”

and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they were all drinking from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.

Each competitor must exercise self-control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one.

And do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit,

the Lord our God delivered him over to us and we struck him down, along with his sons and everyone else.

When you came to this place King Sihon of Heshbon and King Og of Bashan came out to make war and we defeated them.

So the Lord our God did indeed give over to us King Og of Bashan and his whole army and we struck them down until not a single survivor was left.

We put all of these under divine judgment just as we had done to King Sihon of Heshbon – every occupied city, including women and children.

So he humbled you by making you hungry and then feeding you with unfamiliar manna. He did this to teach you that humankind cannot live by bread alone, but also by everything that comes from the Lord’s mouth.
