Deuteronomy 22:1

When you see your neighbor’s ox or sheep going astray, do not ignore it; you must return it without fail to your neighbor.

Deliver those being taken away to death, and hold back those slipping to the slaughter.

Do not forsake your friend and your father’s friend, and do not enter your brother’s house in the day of your disaster; a neighbor nearby is better than a brother far away.

The one who gives to the poor will not lack, but whoever shuts his eyes to them will receive many curses.

I want you to share your food with the hungry and to provide shelter for homeless, oppressed people. When you see someone naked, clothe him! Don’t turn your back on your own flesh and blood!

I will wait patiently for the Lord, who has rejected the family of Jacob; I will wait for him.

I will seek the lost and bring back the strays; I will bandage the injured and strengthen the sick, but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them – with judgment!

You have not strengthened the weak, healed the sick, bandaged the injured, brought back the strays, or sought the lost, but with force and harshness you have ruled over them.

If, however, the people of the land shut their eyes to that man when he gives some of his children to Molech so that they do not put him to death,

or has found something lost and denies it and swears falsely concerning any one of the things that someone might do to sin –

“The Lord who rules over all said, ‘Exercise true judgment and show brotherhood and compassion to each other.

Go instead to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

So he answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

For it is written in the law of Moses, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.” God is not concerned here about oxen, is he?

If the owner does not live near you or you do not know who the owner is, then you must corral the animal at your house and let it stay with you until the owner looks for it; then you must return it to him.

For you were going astray like sheep but now you have turned back to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.
