All along the way I, the Lord your God, have blessed your every effort. I have been attentive to your travels through this great wasteland. These forty years I have been with you; you have lacked for nothing.’”

Then I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, so that you will exemplify divine blessing.

“The Lord has richly blessed my master and he has become very wealthy. The Lord has given him sheep and cattle, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys.

When Isaac planted in that land, he reaped in the same year a hundred times what he had sown, because the Lord blessed him.

But Laban said to him, “If I have found favor in your sight, please stay here, for I have learned by divination that the Lord has blessed me on account of you.”

His master observed that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made everything he was doing successful.

From the time Potiphar appointed him over his household and over all that he owned, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s household for Joseph’s sake. The blessing of the Lord was on everything that he had, both in his house and in his fields.

For forty years you sustained them. Even in the desert they never lacked anything. Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell.

But he knows the pathway that I take; if he tested me, I would come forth like gold.

Certainly the Lord guards the way of the godly, but the way of the wicked ends in destruction.

They wandered through the wilderness on a desert road; they found no city in which to live.

I will be happy and rejoice in your faithfulness, because you notice my pain and you are aware of how distressed I am.

May our sovereign God extend his favor to us! Make our endeavors successful! Yes, make them successful!

Now the Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a land that was inhabited; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

“Go and declare in the hearing of the people of Jerusalem: ‘This is what the Lord says: “I have fond memories of you, how devoted you were to me in your early years. I remember how you loved me like a new bride; you followed me through the wilderness, through a land that had never been planted.

I cared for you in the wilderness, in the dry desert where no water was.

I brought you up from the land of Egypt; I led you through the wilderness for forty years so you could take the Amorites’ land as your own.

Now the Lord spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the wilderness of Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites departed from the land of Egypt. He said:

and your children will wander in the wilderness forty years and suffer for your unfaithfulness, until your dead bodies lie finished in the wilderness.

According to the number of the days you have investigated this land, forty days – one day for a year – you will suffer for your iniquities, forty years, and you will know what it means to thwart me.

But God said to Balaam, “You must not go with them; you must not curse the people, for they are blessed.”

So the Lord’s anger was kindled against the Israelites, and he made them wander in the wilderness for forty years, until all that generation that had done wickedly before the Lord was finished.

Then Jesus said to them, “When I sent you out with no money bag, or traveler’s bag, or sandals, you didn’t lack anything, did you?” They replied, “Nothing.”

My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Then we left Horeb and passed through all that immense, forbidding wilderness that you saw on the way to the Amorite hill country as the Lord our God had commanded us to do, finally arriving at Kadesh Barnea.

Therefore, you remained at Kadesh for a long time – indeed, for the full time.

Now the length of time it took for us to go from Kadesh Barnea to the crossing of Wadi Zered was thirty-eight years, time for all the military men of that generation to die, just as the Lord had vowed to them.

You may purchase food to eat and water to drink from them.

But to this very day the Lord has not given you an understanding mind, perceptive eyes, or discerning ears!

I have led you through the desert for forty years. Your clothing has not worn out nor have your sandals deteriorated.

Indeed, for forty years the Israelites traveled through the desert until all the men old enough to fight when they left Egypt, the ones who had disobeyed the Lord, died off. For the Lord had sworn a solemn oath to them that he would not let them see the land he had sworn on oath to give them, a land rich in milk and honey.
