Now if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.

John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he is not a disciple along with us.”

(Now seven sons of a man named Sceva, a Jewish high priest, were doing this.)

For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus different from the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the one you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it well enough!

At that time Joshua made this solemn declaration: “The man who attempts to rebuild this city of Jericho will stand condemned before the Lord. He will lose his firstborn son when he lays its foundations and his youngest son when he erects its gates!”

Now the men of Israel were hard pressed that day, for Saul had made the army agree to this oath: “Cursed be the man who eats food before evening! I will get my vengeance on my enemies!” So no one in the army ate anything.
