nor is he served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives life and breath and everything to everyone.

The Lord God formed the man from the soil of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

in whose hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all the human race.

“Is it to God that a strong man is of benefit? Is it to him that even a wise man is profitable?

for while my spirit is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils,

For I will not be hostile forever or perpetually angry, for then man’s spirit would grow faint before me, the life-giving breath I created.

So King Zedekiah made a secret promise to Jeremiah and sealed it with an oath. He promised, “As surely as the Lord lives who has given us life and breath, I promise you this: I will not kill you or hand you over to those men who want to kill you.”

The revelation of the word of the Lord concerning Israel: The Lord – he who stretches out the heavens and lays the foundations of the earth, who forms the human spirit within a person – says,

Then they threw themselves down with their faces to the ground and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all people, will you be angry with the whole community when only one man sins?”

“Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all humankind, appoint a man over the community,

so that you may be like your Father in heaven, since he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Go and learn what this saying means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

yet he did not leave himself without a witness by doing good, by giving you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying you with food and your hearts with joy.”

For in him we live and move about and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we too are his offspring.’

Or who has first given to God, that God needs to repay him?

I also call on you to love the Lord your God, to obey him and be loyal to him, for he gives you life and enables you to live continually in the land the Lord promised to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Command those who are rich in this world’s goods not to be haughty or to set their hope on riches, which are uncertain, but on God who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment.
