So they took Paul and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are proclaiming?

The watchman replies, “Morning is coming, but then night. If you want to ask, ask; come back again.”

And you will be brought before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them and the Gentiles.

They were all amazed so that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him.”

“I give you a new commandment – to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

For you are bringing some surprising things to our ears, so we want to know what they mean.”

So Paul stood before the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I see that you are very religious in all respects.

But some people joined him and believed. Among them were Dionysius, who was a member of the Areopagus, a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

The commanding officer took him by the hand, withdrew privately, and asked, “What is it that you want to report to me?”

Some days later, when Felix arrived with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.

Agrippa said to Festus, “I would also like to hear the man myself.” “Tomorrow,” he replied, “you will hear him.”

So Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul held out his hand and began his defense:
