But if they are bound in chains, and held captive by the cords of affliction,

The ropes of death tightened around me, the snares of Sheol confronted me. I was confronted with trouble and sorrow.

Proud men hide a snare for me; evil men spread a net by the path; they set traps for me. (Selah)

The ropes of Sheol tightened around me, the snares of death trapped me.

Instruction from the wise is like a life-giving fountain, to turn a person from deadly snares.

The fear of the Lord is like a life-giving fountain, to turn people from deadly snares.

The wicked will be captured by his own iniquities, and he will be held by the cords of his own sin.

and said, “I called out to the Lord from my distress, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried out for help, and you heard my prayer.

“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near.

But God raised him up, having released him from the pains of death, because it was not possible for him to be held in its power.
