Then Absalom happened to come across David’s men. Now as Absalom was riding on his mule, it went under the branches of a large oak tree. His head got caught in the oak and he was suspended in midair, while the mule he had been riding kept going.

So Absalom’s servants did to Amnon exactly what Absalom had instructed. Then all the king’s sons got up; each one rode away on his mule and fled.

When he would shave his head – at the end of every year he used to shave his head, for it grew too long and he would shave it – he used to weigh the hair of his head at three pounds according to the king’s weight.

When Ahithophel realized that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and returned to his house in his hometown. After setting his household in order, he hanged himself. So he died and was buried in the grave of his father.

When one of the men saw this, he reported it to Joab saying, “I saw Absalom hanging in an oak tree.

The battle there was spread out over the whole area, and the forest consumed more soldiers than the sword devoured that day.

Is it not misfortune for the unjust, and disaster for those who work iniquity?

The one who curses his father and his mother, his lamp will be extinguished in the blackest darkness.

The eye that mocks at a father and despises obeying a mother – the ravens of the valley will peck it out and the young vultures will eat it.

Anyone who flees at the sound of terror will fall into a pit. Anyone who climbs out of the pit will be caught in a trap. For the time is coming when I will punish the people of Moab. I, the Lord, affirm it!

So Judas threw the silver coins into the temple and left. Then he went out and hanged himself.

‘Cursed is the one who disrespects his father and mother.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

‘Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his father’s former wife, for he dishonors his father.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’
