Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and cut off his head!”

Abishai son of Zeruiah replied, “For this should not Shimei be put to death? After all, he cursed the Lord’s anointed!”

But David said, “What do we have in common, you sons of Zeruiah? You are like my enemy today! Should anyone be put to death in Israel today? Don’t you realize that today I am king over Israel?”

So Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel in Gibeon during the battle.

These words of Ish-bosheth really angered Abner and he said, “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah? This very day I am demonstrating loyalty to the house of Saul your father and to his relatives and his friends! I have not betrayed you into the hand of David. Yet you have accused me of sinning with this woman today!

Then Mephibosheth bowed and said, “Of what importance am I, your servant, that you show regard for a dead dog like me?”

“You must not blaspheme God or curse the ruler of your people.

Now when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”

Paul replied, “I did not realize, brothers, that he was the high priest, for it is written, ‘You must not speak evil about a ruler of your people.’”

Honor all people, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the king.

Who has the king of Israel come out after? Who is it that you are pursuing? A dead dog? A single flea?
