The Tekoan woman said to the king, “My lord the king, let any blame fall on me and on the house of my father. But let the king and his throne be innocent!”

So his mother told him, “Any curse against you will fall on me, my son! Just obey me! Go and get them for me!”

I myself pledge security for him; you may hold me liable. If I do not bring him back to you and place him here before you, I will bear the blame before you all my life.

The king said, “Bring to me whoever speaks to you, and he won’t bother you again!”

Then the king told the woman, “Go to your home. I will give instructions concerning your situation.”

May Joab and his descendants be perpetually guilty of their shed blood, but may the Lord give perpetual peace to David, his descendants, his family, and his dynasty.”

“You must not pollute the land where you live, for blood defiles the land, and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed there, except by the blood of the person who shed it.

In reply all the people said, “Let his blood be on us and on our children!”

Falling at his feet, she said, “My lord, I accept all the guilt! But please let your female servant speak with my lord! Please listen to the words of your servant!
