After seven years the woman returned from the land of the Philistines and went to ask the king to give her back her house and field.

So the Tekoan woman went to the king. She bowed down with her face to the ground in deference to him and said, “Please help me, O king!”

Elisha said to Gehazi, “Tell her, ‘Look, you have treated us with such great respect. What can I do for you? Can I put in a good word for you with the king or the commander of the army?’” She replied, “I’m quite secure.”

While the king of Israel was passing by on the city wall, a woman shouted to him, “Help us, my master, O king!”

So the woman did as the prophet said. She and her family went and lived in the land of the Philistines for seven years.

Now the king was talking to Gehazi, the prophet’s servant, and said, “Tell me all the great things which Elisha has done.”

The king asked the woman about it, and she gave him the details. The king assigned a eunuch to take care of her request and ordered him, “Give her back everything she owns, as well as the amount of crops her field produced from the day she left the land until now.”

He upheld the cause of the poor and needy. So things went well for Judah.’ The Lord says, ‘That is a good example of what it means to know me.’

Now as she and her two daughters-in-law began to leave the place where she had been living to return to the land of Judah,
