Now the king of Syria was at war with Israel. He consulted his advisers, who said, “Invade at such and such a place.”

Now King Ben Hadad of Syria assembled all his army, along with thirty-two other kings with their horses and chariots. He marched against Samaria and besieged and attacked it.

Now the advisers of the king of Syria said to him: “Their God is a god of the mountains. That’s why they overpowered us. But if we fight them in the plains, we will certainly overpower them.

Ben Hadad said, “I will return the cities my father took from your father. You may set up markets in Damascus, just as my father did in Samaria.” Ahab then said, “I want to make a treaty with you before I dismiss you.” So he made a treaty with him and then dismissed him.

There was no war between Syria and Israel for three years.

Now the king of Syria had ordered his thirty-two chariot commanders, “Do not fight common soldiers or high-ranking officers; fight only the king of Israel.”

Later King Ben Hadad of Syria assembled his entire army and attacked and besieged Samaria.

He said, “Lift it out.” So he reached out his hand and grabbed it.

But the prophet sent this message to the king of Israel, “Make sure you don’t pass through this place because Syria is invading there.”

Plans are established by counsel, so make war with guidance.

There is no wisdom and there is no understanding, and there is no counsel against the Lord.

Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted! Issue your orders, but they will not be executed! For God is with us!
