In the first month of the first year of his reign, he opened the doors of the Lord’s temple and repaired them.

Ahaz gathered the items in God’s temple and removed them. He shut the doors of the Lord’s temple and erected altars on every street corner in Jerusalem.

On the first day of the first month they began consecrating; by the eighth day of the month they reached the porch of the Lord’s temple. For eight more days they consecrated the Lord’s temple. On the sixteenth day of the first month they were finished.

He brought in the priests and Levites and assembled them in the square on the east side.

They closed the doors of the temple porch and put out the lamps; they did not offer incense or burnt sacrifices in the sanctuary of the God of Israel.

In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his ancestor David. In his twelfth year he began ridding Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, Asherah poles, idols, and images.

I will not even consider doing what is dishonest. I hate doing evil; I will have no part of it.

“On the first day of the first month you are to set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting.

Whatever you find to do with your hands, do it with all your might, because there is neither work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the grave, the place where you will eventually go.

But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
