(14:1) Asa did what the Lord his God desired and approved.

Asa did what the Lord approved like his ancestor David had done.

He removed the male cultic prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the disgusting idols his ancestors had made.

The high places were not eliminated, yet Asa was wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord throughout his lifetime.

(13:23) Abijah passed away and was buried in the City of David. His son Asa replaced him as king. During his reign the land had rest for ten years.

He removed the pagan altars and the high places, smashed the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles.

King Asa also removed Maacah his grandmother from her position as queen mother because she had made a loathsome Asherah pole. Asa cut down her Asherah pole and crushed and burned it in the Kidron Valley.

He was committed to following the Lord; he even removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.

He followed in his father Asa’s footsteps and was careful to do what the Lord approved.

Jehoram received this letter from Elijah the prophet: “This is what the Lord God of your ancestor David says: ‘You have not followed in the footsteps of your father Jehoshaphat and of King Asa of Judah,

When all this was over, the Israelites who were in the cities of Judah went out and smashed the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and demolished all the high places and altars throughout Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh. Then all the Israelites returned to their own homes in their cities.

This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah. He did what the Lord his God considered good and right and faithful.

he tore down the altars and Asherah poles, demolished the idols, and smashed all the incense altars throughout the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.

“You must not bow down to their gods; you must not serve them or do according to their practices. Instead you must completely overthrow them and smash their standing stones to pieces.

in holiness and righteousness before him for as long as we live.

You must tear down their altars, shatter their sacred pillars, burn up their sacred Asherah poles, and cut down the images of their gods; you must eliminate their very memory from that place.
