So when Rehoboam humbled himself, the Lord relented from his anger and did not annihilate him; Judah experienced some good things.

“But you, his son Belshazzar, have not humbled yourself, although you knew all this.

The lord was mindful of the calamity, and he brought it on us. For the lord our God is just in all he has done, and we have not obeyed him.

For ignoring the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking instead to establish their own righteousness, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.

Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.”

Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings, with thumbs and big toes cut off, used to lick up food scraps under my table. God has repaid me for what I did to them.” They brought him to Jerusalem, where he died.
