2 Chronicles 10:16

New English Translation

When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king, “We have no portion in David – no share in the son of Jesse! Return to your homes, O Israel! Now, look after your own dynasty, O David!” So all Israel returned to their homes.

Then a messenger came to David and reported, “The men of Israel are loyal to Absalom!”

Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants, “My own son, my very own flesh and blood, is trying to take my life. So also now this Benjaminite! Leave him alone so that he can curse, for the Lord has spoken to him.

Now a wicked man named Sheba son of Bicri, a Benjaminite, happened to be there. He blew the trumpet and said, “We have no share in David; we have no inheritance in this son of Jesse! Every man go home, O Israel!”

But I will not tear away the entire kingdom; I will leave your son one tribe for my servant David’s sake and for the sake of my chosen city Jerusalem.”

I will put him in permanent charge of my house and my kingdom; his dynasty will be permanent.”’”

(Rehoboam continued to rule over the Israelites who lived in the cities of Judah.)

So Israel has been in rebellion against the Davidic dynasty to this very day.

There I will make David strong; I have determined that my chosen king’s dynasty will continue.

Certainly your angry judgment upon men will bring you praise; you reveal your anger in full measure.

A shoot will grow out of Jesse’s root stock, a bud will sprout from his roots.

“In that day I will rebuild the collapsing hut of David. I will seal its gaps, repair its ruins, and restore it to what it was like in days gone by.

But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to be king over us!’

But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be their king, bring them here and slaughter them in front of me!’”

After this many of his disciples quit following him and did not accompany him any longer.

And each one departed to his own house.

So then, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne,

For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star!”

They did not treat the family of Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) fairly in return for all the good he had done for Israel.

But the next morning, the second day of the new moon, David’s place was still vacant. So Saul said to his son Jonathan, “Why has Jesse’s son not come to the meal yesterday or today?”

Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and this son of Jesse? You gave him bread and a sword and inquired of God on his behalf, so that he opposes me and waits in ambush, as is the case today!”

Saul said to his servants who were stationed around him, “Listen up, you Benjaminites! Is Jesse’s son giving fields and vineyards to all of you? Or is he making all of you commanders and officers?

But Doeg the Edomite, who had stationed himself with the servants of Saul, replied, “I saw this son of Jesse come to Ahimelech son of Ahitub at Nob.
